WHY THE FAMILY IS SO IMPORTANT

 WHY THE FAMILY IS SO IMPORTANT

By : M.Joromas

It has been a while when people still had strong values attached to their families. Presently, this has been replaced by the love of money as everyone is becoming avaricious. However, even in a society where family relationships are undermined, there is need to understand well the purpose of a family in our lives especially the young ones.

Relationships are the most important aspects in our lives and this is realized when we have less time to live. “What if your doctor informs you that you have one week to live, who could you spend that week with?” These questions drives you to the most important aspect in your life.

When people presently are enjoying their lives, they think less of their families; parents think that if they give their kids money, they have done enough.

It’s important to note that family relationships are the most important due to the fact that, in a family, one gets three basic needs, i.e., security, self worth and significance.

In the first place, one feels secure in the family as s/he feels the sense of love as every human being wants to be loved unconditionally.

It’s only in a family that one can be loved with no condition, whether poor or rich, your family loves you and will be happy to receive you in all situations.

Secondly, in a family, one feels worth. The family makes one feel more valuable. This is because; your family pushes you to reach your goal. Knowing your value helps you in everything you do as you cease being helpless.

In the third place, everyone in a family feels more significant. It’s only in a family that one becomes more purposeful without hidden agendas.

Therefore, where these three basic needs are met, they prevent us from different behaviors that cause addiction. For instance;

The needs are, feeling secure, self worth and significant.

Where these are not met, one will resort to a temporary relief in form of drugs, peer groups and any other behavior.

This behavior will be repeated since its temporary and thus one will want it to be available always.

Since it has become repeated, it will turn into a habit and with time, one will be addicted to it as she/he can no longer live without it. This kind of addiction can even result into death.

Therefore, it’s more surprising to find out that, the little time, the love and attention you show your family is worth. You are not wasting time but preventing a nightmare in your family.

Children need to be shown love in their families so that they are not diverted to the wrong way in the name of searching for love. Note that, wherever the family fails to its role, the society suffers the consequences. The family is the pillar of the society.
